According to Hindu legend, Sati Devi’s father Daksha Prajapati became appearing a Yagya, he invited all of the gods besides Mahadev to the rite. So Sati went to his father’s Yagya ceremony and asked him why he had not invited her husband.

Daksha Prajapati answered that Mahadev drank alcohol, smoked ganja, slept in cemeteries, wore a serpent around his neck, had dreadlocks, covered his body with ash, and wore a tiger disguise, subsequently he was no longer an appropriate person to ask for such a crucial Yagya. Unable to withstand such an insult to her husband, Sati jumped into the Yagya fireplace and gave up her existence. Mahadev became so angered by way of the news of her death that he despatched Birbhadra and Bhoot Gana to kill Daksha Prajapati and smash the Yagya.

After exacting his vengeance, Mahadev commenced mourning the death of his spouse. Mahadev traveled everywhere in the global wearing Sati’s dead body. All through this time, God Vishnu with his Sudarshan chakra wounded Sati’s frame so that it can be infested by using bugs and rot. As Sati’s frame started to rot and its parts fall off, the floor where her frame elements fell became shakti peethas and places of worship. On this system, her left shoulder fell on Mallagiri mountain. This Mallagiri becomes then called Malika.
